I LOVE February! I love filling the classroom with all the pink and red colors, hanging cute crafts, but most importantly, I LOVE all the warm and fuzzy feelings I share with my students as we celebrate “Friendship Day.”
Not to mention, all the Valentine’s Day books, Loveeeee books and Friendship books we read!
Here are some Valentine’s Day book recommendations for the classroom! Including friendship books and “LOVE” themed books.
FREEBIE at the end!
Valentine’s Day Book Recommendations:
The Kiss Box by Bonnie Verburg: a story between a mother and child, similar to “The Kissing Hand.” You can have the students make a “kiss box” to fill their valentine’s with.
The Day it Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond: one of my FAVORITE books! She makes valentine’s, each one special and unique for her friends. We usually make an umbrella craft to follow with hearts hanging from it with things we love.
Penguin in Love by Salina Yoon: The “penguin” series is one I will always read in my classroom. A little Penguin is always thinking of others, and reveals an important message about love and friendship. We usually create a cute penguin craft to follow.
A Crakenstein Valentine by Samantha Gerber: a kid who HATES all things mushy and lovey. This laugh out loud book will have the kids feeling all the mushy feelings. To follow, we create “love” or “friendship” poems on hearts to hang in the hall or on a bulletin board! The sillier the better!
Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry: a book of loving who you are. ALL parts of who you are and knowing they are beautiful in their own unique way. To follow, draw self portraits with a writing piece of what they love about themselves.
Love by Matt De La Pena: this story about love will truly bring tears to your eyes. It is about love and all the forms of it.
