Do you use Desk Pets in your classroom? Are you getting ready for the end of the year? This Desk Pets: Summer Vacation packet will be perfect for your students! It will keep them and their Desk Pets busy all summer with “habitat building”, “All About My Pet” research project, “PetPals” letter pages, a calendar of activities and more!
First, let me share some ideas with you on how to implement desk pets into your classroom! Check out this blog post of ideas!
Desk Pet: Summer Vacation Ideas:
Pet Passports- I wanted a way the students could document what they did with their desk pet, and where they went on summer adventures together. These passport pages are great for different age groups and academic levels.
Habitat Building- Students are provided with a list of materials they can use for their desk pet habitat. This could include, legos, blocks, play-doh, an old shoe box and more!
Ideas continued…
“Pet Pal” Letters- Next, this was a spin off of “pen pals”. These are a great way for students to stay connected to their peers, practice handwriting and spelling skills, and have some fun without technology. Have students write to other “desk pet owners” from their classroom, or write to a family member or friend.
“Research Your Animal” project: This activity is a great way for students to learn more about their desk pet animal. Students will first research their pet and gather facts. After researching, they are encouraged to create a research poster to share their pet facts with family and friends.
Monthly Idea Calendars: These months are filled with ideas for your students to complete a fun activity with their desk pet each day! Students could get BINGO, or work on crossing out a pet adventure each day. Students will color or shade in a square each time they complete an activity with their desk pet. What a great way to give them ideas for their “Pet Passport” and “PetPal” letters!
This Desk Pet Summer Vacation packet was a great way to provide activities to send home with my end of the year gift and activities for my students. I put them in a sand pail with the packet, a few new desk pets and some other goodies! I hope your students love this just as much as mine!
